KFM Radio, A Legacy of Hope, Faith, and Christ Centered Broadcasting Across Northern Ontario

KFM Radio’s story is a testimony of what God can build through willing hearts, steady hands, and a commitment to bringing hope to the hurting. What began as a small step of faith in the early 1990s has grown into one of the most influential Christian radio networks in Northern Ontario, serving families with encouragement and Christ centered programming for decades.

A Humble Beginning with a Clear Purpose

In 1993, a simple opportunity opened for Christian broadcasting in Northern Ontario. Curtis Belcher and a small group of believers felt compelled to steward it. A vision formed, not rooted in ambition, but in a desire to lift up Jesus, serve families, and create a safe place of encouragement through radio.

On June 6, 1997, the licence for CJTK FM was granted, and by September the station went on the air for the very first time. Its earliest broadcasts happened inside a small office divided by a five foot partition. One side hosted Curtis’s tax clients, and the other held the modest equipment that carried Christian programming across Sudbury. It was simple, but it was anointed, and people began to listen.

By 1998 volunteers filled roles, answered phones, and supported the ministry as it grew into a 1200 square foot studio space. The annual budget was only twelve thousand dollars, yet the impact far exceeded the resources. When God desires to reach people, even small beginnings carry great strength.

    Expanding Reach, Deepening Ministry

Through steady faithful steps, CJTK grew into a network across multiple cities. Power increases, new transmitters, new studios, and new broadcasting centres shaped the years ahead. By 2000, CJTK became Canada’s first Christian radio network. By 2001, they launched the Prayer Ministry Centre, which has since ministered to tens of thousands.

New cities followed. North Bay, Manitoulin Island, Elliot Lake, Mattawa, Timmins, Sault Ste Marie, Iroquois Falls, Englehart, and others became part of the expanding KFM family.

Through storms, financial challenges, and even the global pandemic, their commitment never wavered. KFM stood firm, offering prayer, hope, and encouragement when people needed it most.

In 2009 the station rebranded as KFM, unifying the network with a clear identity and shared mission across the entire region. Today they reach hundreds of thousands, carrying Christ centered radio into homes, workplaces, and communities.

Their Vision, A Ministry Formed Around Christ and Family

At the heart of KFM is a simple but powerful vision. They desire to bring hope to the hurting, see faith flourish in families, and have God glorified in everything they do. Their programming, outreach efforts, and prayer ministry all flow from this purpose.

KFM believes in anointed music, in messages that point listeners toward Jesus, and in maintaining a never ending commitment to the body of Christ. Their ministry centre was built on prayer, and remains anchored in prayer today. They do not boast in the station itself, but in the grace, mercy, and love of the Lord who sustains it.

God has grown this ministry far beyond the founders’ original intent, and KFM continues to stand as a living reminder that He is not finished using them to reach Northern Ontario.

Championing Independent Christian Artists with a Heart for Ministry

One of the most meaningful qualities of KFM is their willingness to support independent Christian artists who share uplifting music and the gospel of Christ. Their heart for ministry extends beyond their own walls, reaching into the lives of artists who carry messages of hope to listeners.

Kingdom Chorus is sincerely grateful for the kindness KFM has shown toward artists within our roster, including Josh Clay. Their belief in independent music that honors Christ reflects their desire to serve families, strengthen the faith of listeners, and glorify God through every part of their platform.

Stations like KFM help emerging artists reach hearts they could never reach on their own. Their support is not simply promotional. It is ministry.

    A Kingdom Chorus Thank You

We honor KFM Radio for their decades of faithfulness, their unwavering vision, their prayer filled ministry, and their continued commitment to broadcasting hope across Northern Ontario. Their story is a reminder that God uses humble beginnings, committed hearts, and surrendered vision to build something that touches countless lives.

To the entire KFM team, thank you for being a light in your community, for lifting high the name of Jesus, for helping faith flourish in families, and for supporting independent Christian artists who carry Christ centered messages. We celebrate you and the impact you continue to make.
